In Washington's Farewell address he brings up many points about his time as president and even warnings for the future. He talks about his time as president and how through unity and dedication. As one they endured and fought, eventually succeeding, gaining independence. Also stating that the unity of government is essential to the freedom of the people, ensuring the safety of citizens at home. Washington also listed many warnings in his farewell address. One mentioning the Constitution, explaining that it is important to keep the government and the people organized. He continues to warn people from forming parties in state as there is no good that can come from it. He issues a second warning, this time addressing religion and morality. He stresses that good faith and peacefulness is important in diplomacy with other nations. LAD/Blog #7: Washington's Proclamation of Neutrality

The Proclamation of Neutrality written in 1793 by George Washington. It addressed the foreign policy of the United States. It stated that the United States would take a stance of neutrality on conflict with foreign powers like France and Britain. It also warned citizens to not get involved in these conflicts and by doing so they render themselves liable for punishment for aiding a power. Its purpose was to convey the United States position of neutrality. The United States policy of neutrality is very similar to Switzerland. As the United States were neutral in conflicts with world powers Switzerland were neutral in World War I and World War II.

1. What is a faction? A faction is when a group of people join together or unite to agree to disagree on an issue. It does not matter whether the group is a minority or majority. Factions are "man's nature", giving them rights closely associated with liberty. The Tenth Federalist paper states "Liberty is to faction what air is to fire, an aliment without it which instantly expires". This means that a government based on liberty is building the framework for a rise of factions. 2. Are factions good or bad? Factions are bad. They cause mischief in not only government but also society. Factions are like a disease. They spread their ideas and beliefs planting seeds of doubt in the minds of the people. Governments can be taken down by factions and cause chaos. 3. Why are factions so difficult to eliminate? 1.  What role did the Revolutionary War play in the transformation of housewifery to Republican Motherhood? Republican Motherhood was started and quickened by the American Revolution. Many still believed that women belonged in the house, but some started to believe that women served the country by training and guided their sons in good, humane ways (Doc A). Women were told that how they raised their children impacted the destiny of their country (Doc D). Others believed that independence was dependent on women, who nurtured and raised their boys who would come to fight in the Revolutionary War (Doc C). 2. What were the consequences of Republican Motherhood on women? A consequence of Republican Motherhood was that it tightened the view that women were meant to be in the home. 1. The Revolutionary War was actually America's longest declared war and lasted over 8 year. 1 man for every 4 were killed in the Continental Army compared to the Civil War where 1 in every 5 men died. 2. The camera was available by 1861, allowing historians to record the human drama and carnage. This made the Civil War the first modern war. 3. Painting or drawings portrayed the Revolutionary War as glorious and bloodless, as there are no images of bloodied or dismembered bodies. This hides the real truth about the war. 4.The first televised war was Vietnam. The reporters and news networks showed the harsh reality of war. This included the brutal killing and violence of the war. At the same time however cast war was an everyday occurrence and people could turn off their television if they wanted to. 5. 1. List the democratic principles discussed in the opening. There are several democratic principals within the opening of the Declaration of Independence. The first being that all men are created equal and that every man has basic rights that cannot be taken away. It also states that the government gets their power from the consent of the governed in order to secure the rights of citizens. It also states that the people have the right to cast of an old government and create a new government based on the principals of the people to preserve the happiness and freedom of the people. These principals came form European philosophers such as John Locke. 2. List 5 grievances the colonists were making the King aware of. The colonists had many issues with King, stated within the Declaration of Independence. LAD #2-The Trial of John Peter Zenger

Who was Peter Zenger?    Peter Zenger was an editor and printer for the New York Weekly Journal and was the apprentice of William Bradford of the New York Gazette. He arrived in New York in 1710 as a German immigrant. Zenger printed articles that criticized the colony governor, William Crosby. Zenger was arrested for these works. What was the controversy over his charges? Talk about Hamilton's defense.    Zenger's lawyer was Andrew Hamilton. Hamilton admitted that while Zenger had taken part in the publication of the articles but that these publication were merely an attempt to bad mouth the officials unless proven otherwise. Hamliton appeal to the jury to take into account the laws and facts. This was enough to convince the jury to acquit Zenger. LAD #1-Mayflower Compact and Fundamental Orders of Connecticut

What concepts are included in the Mayflower Compact?     Within the Mayflower Compact there are several crucial concep ts one being that the government is based on those governed. Another being that loyalty to England, the king and the pilgrims mother country remains strong even in the New World. Faith in God and accompanying beliefs is also a important concept included in the compact.   How does the Mayflower Compact reflect and attachment to both the "Old" and "New" worlds?        The Mayflower Compact reflects both Old and New world attachment. For example, the agreement states that these settlers will remain loyal to their mother country while at the same time forming a democratic settlement on a new continent. Also the remaining faith in God shows Old world sentiment even while creating new settlement shows the attachment to both the New and Old world.
